This week I wanted to test a new launcher, which is still in the version beta and not available for download in Italy. I'm talking about Everything Home, a new launcher that changes the search mode of our device. Graphically speaking, Everything Home may seem like a normal launcher, very similar to the stock one, but the novelty lies in the dynamism of this launcher.
First let's take a look at the organization of the apps. When you first start up, Everything Home collects all the applications in folders - smart folder - on the screens, divided by genre (Social, Games, Music, TV, Weather, etc). Obviously it is not the first launcher to do this, but the novelty is inside the folders. By opening a folder, it will have a background according to the category and, in addition to our applications, links to other apps or sites related to the category!
The automatic organization takes place even when we create folders, overlapping the applications. The created folder will be automatically assigned a name and an image based on the content and similar applications will also be added (this could be annoying as if we wanted to create a folder with only some applications we would then have to remove all the other additions automatically since launcher). Finally we can rename the smart folder, change the background with hundreds of images available and insert widget inside of!
Another interesting aspect is the dynamic home. First the time at the bottom, above the dock. We are shown the clock but with a swipe upwards (or by pressing the home button), the time moves up to showing the most recently used 4 apps! We can choose not to show a specific app or show it on the home by long press.
At the top we find the search box, but this differs so much from the classic Google search box, rather it is the strong point of the launcher. In fact, writing, or pronouncing, a word, in real time will change the background and there will be shown applications (installed or not), websites, sites that could contain the word, etc.
For example: if we were looking for an artist or a group, the installed applications will appear (if our device contains some songs related to the search), then mp3 readers, and sites on which we can buy or listen (even free) all the tracks of the artist!
It is not easy to draw a conclusion for this launcher, since it is still in beta and not available in Italy, so some research may not satisfy us. It must be said though that it introduces a great novelty never seen before on other launchers and that could improve in the next versions. Also as consumption is a bit high, it is around 115 MB of RAM, but then again it's a beta version. We will wait for the final version for Italy to see the behavior!
