Lo Xiaomi Mi2 remains, in my opinion, one of the best terminals on the market as regards the medium-low price range and what makes it special to the user's eye is the support it receives from all developers: just think of all compatible roms, new kernels or even the Grub which, despite being compatible with all Android terminals with a Qualcomm processor, will see the light on Xiaomi Mi2 (and - since I'm trying it out - I'll show you a The hands-on method in a future article); without forgetting the double native partition and not counting all the articles I wrote about it, here on InTheBit .. 😉
If they asked me, however, what are the problems of this terminal, or more generally, what I don't like, my answer could be: "the hardware keys are not backlit and, even if you get used to them after a while, surely it is one of the biggest flaws of this smartphone; another problem is the ghost touch on the display, which occurs randomly but above all in cases where we have the hand - or the display - wet; finally the audio, which is not bad indoors, but on the outside it leaves something to be desired. "
Apart from the hardware keys (which as such, it would take a not insignificant change; assuming it is feasible), the ghost touch and the low audio problem on Xiaomi Mi2, can be easily solved: the first - the touch ghost - it is a hardware problem but can be solved easily with a protective film; as for the audio, we can use an alternative kernel and an application (for a fee).
How to improve the sound on Xiami Mi2
Ok, we said that to improve - or better, increase - the audio is just a kernel and an application, but let's see exactly what and how to do it.
The kernel in question is the Khaon Kernel, which has many improvements and optimizations and just to name a few: f2fs, new CPU and GPU Governors, CPU / GPU Overclock / Underclock, new schedulers, intelli_plug, etc. Who find the official XDA thread and all the features of the kernel; among these we also find support a FauxSound.
Flashing the kernel is very easy:
- download the kernel paying attention to which version you download (the TDB version, if you have active TDB) | Download
- pass it on the phone and restart in recovery (cwm or twrp; No. stock)
- make a good nandroid backup
- flasha on the affected system
- performs wipe cache and wipe dalvik
It's really important make a Nandroid Backup since some kernel releases suffered from bugs that caused bootloop or worse wipe data. Particular attention must also be given to the installed rom, in fact the kernel does not work on ROMs like MIUI, but only on ROMs CyanogenMod, derivatives and AOSP (Gummy, Omni, Pacman, Paranoid ...)
Once the smartphone is started, just install FauxSound from the Play Store; costs 1,57 € but it's money well spent. At this point we find an obstacle: the application is not compatible with our terminal, but it is enough to edit the build.prop file to deceive the Play Store, perhaps "transforming" our terminal into a Nexus 4: some roms allow changing the name from the settings, otherwise the file is located in / system and the string to be modified is the one with the name of the device; this can be one of the following: ro.product.model = MI 2 o ro.product.name = aries or even ro.product.name = aries. So it is enough to change the final part with that of the terminal that we want to "simulate". Leave everything else unchanged.After my request in the Google+ community, the developer has made FauxSound also available with our Xiaomi Mi2, so just buy it, install it and give it root permissions to pump at best the audio!

The parameters that we can modify not only allow us to expand the volume of the rear case, but also those of the microphone, headphones and other connected devices. I advise not to increase the values much, especially those of the headphones, because it becomes really high e annoying; on the other hand, by increasing the audio of the house a lot, the audio is disturbed. It is therefore necessary to find the right compromise by using the profiles already set or by modifying the various values, perhaps while playing a song.
This is my configuration. The "speaker" always sets it around 10 so as to have very strong but at the same time clear sound. If you try the application, let me know which configuration is best for you!
