Today we will discuss the topic of privacy which is often underestimated: it has become common practice to use applications that have the possibility of trace our position, or even applications that keep our sensitive data in their databases.
For example, we can consider an aspect that concerns us closely: telephone operators have access to the url of the sites we visit, they know what our IP address is and many other information that maybe we would like to keep hidden for various reasons; we also think of the multitude of websites that thanks to cookies memorize our preferences, obviously there are solutions that solve the problem but among the best there is certainly the TOR network that is now very famous.
This communication system, we could also say the best anonymous communication system on the internet, guarantees that the traffic generated within this network is extremely difficult to analyze externally, all the contents displayed are anonymous and no personal information can be collected or easily analyzed by third parties.
our web traffic will pass through a series of Relays scattered around the planet and managed by volunteers, which guarantee the anonymity of connections; when we request, through the browser, the display of a website, our request will be bounced in various parts of the world before reaching the site in question and also adding that the url is encrypted and the IP address changed, we immediately understand how much it is difficult to understand who made the access request and who is viewing those specific contents.
TOR it is already used by many people, in particular: bloggers who must protect themselves because of the persecution they would encounter in some countries of the world, from law enforcement agencies and from anyone (even in the professional field) need a fairly high level of anonymity .
The official application of TOR for android is Orbot | Link Play Store
once installed we will be guided through a wizard for its initial configuration; Orbot is a sort of control center from which we can set various options to secure our privacy, the app's operation varies depending on whether or not you have root permissions enabled:
IF OUR SMARTPHONE HAS THE ROOT PERMITS
Orbot will have full control of the applications, can therefore automatically set the connection options of the various apps such as inserting proxy servers. We can choose whether to apply the change to all the applications or to set them manually when the need arises; we can also make the connection anonymous via tethering for devices connected to our hotspot or still we can contribute to the improvement of the TOR service by transferring a part of our connection enabling us as Relay (obviously the traffic that will pass through our Relay will be charged to our account so with 3g it is strongly advised against enabling this option) .
IF OUR SMARTPHONE HAS NO ENABLED ROOT PERMITS
Orbot will not have free access to modify the apps installed on the device, therefore it recommends the installation of some applications specifically programmed to interact with Orbot in particular: a specific browser for the TOR network and a fantastic application in which to insert your messaging account, which will be made completely anonymous: i configurable accounts I'm:
- Google Account
when we receive new messages we can set a normal one notifies and also a sound alert just like a normal one messaging app (a bit like pidgin on the PC)

FOCUS: let's talk about the specific browser recommended by Orbot: those who have already used TOR on the PC know very well what kind of browser to expect; it must be said that this type of navigation is recommended to display information pages, news, articles, blogs etc etc but it is certainly not suitable for displaying videos or multimedia contents due to the low browsing speed, which does not make use of large datacenters to sort web traffic, but relies on nodes, made up of the users themselves (and not only) who with great ethics share their resources to improve a global service, but which, inevitably cannot have the same Google capability (for example).

the navigation, even if quite slow (in our test with the default browser we reached an average speed of 1.5-2Mb / s while from Orweb the speed was significantly lower, about 200Kb / s) is pleasant, you can access youtube and play videos directly from the browser, the sites are paginated perfectly and text resizing is also implemented based on the page zoom.
Even the browser therefore manages to amaze and does not preclude any possibility of browsing, even if it is recommended to display pages that are fairly light and what do you think?
